The literal translation of the title of this film is: the Beach.

This movie made in the early era of the reforms in China is one of first that moved away from the typical political propaganda that dominated Chinese films for so long. The plot revolves around the beach and it is a drama, not the common political propaganda issues such as boosting productivity or upholding Party principles. Although the drama was not as good as those in the west, but this film still deserves some credit for bringing in something new in the Chinese film industry.

"The sea here Not allowed leaving dirt!" This sentence implies that the profound meaning in this film and thus giving rise to the story, The setting sun, the beach, a team of living here for generations who catch fish with the vertical nets, really amazing.

Here are some important things the director and writer hope to tell us in this story: (1) Contradictions between industrialization model and traditional life styles, (2) hidden costs when people pursue the common Urbanization values. Maybe it have a subtle change as we seek to find a balance, we have to give up a lot of gifts of God to achieve modernization.

The issues such as Ecological deterioration, lack of institutionalized trial, the concept of the shackles of marriage among the fetters of urban and rural young people, which were explored in this film also confused us until today in China¡¯s society.

Cast and crew such as Changwei Gu, Tan Dun, Ling Bai and words "Electronic Music Lab of China" appeared in credits list also shows the film's unique and forward-looking ¡§Cit did more than expected in my opinion.

In whole, good film director & screenwriter of this film revealed the expression of personal views were respected before 1989 in China. I Really feel the openness of the film industry was much larger than the present, just like other 80's Chinese movies. Absolutely worth watching it!
