The literal translation of the title of this movie is: An American Flier.

This movie, like most Chinese war movies, is based on the true story that really happened. The movie is based on the rescue of an American pilot who was shot down over China by Japanese.

The rescued American flier had always wanted to revisit the place where he was rescued and those people who helped him, because in the haste of escaping Japanese, he never really got the chance to do so. Due to the Cold war, he never got his wish. The making of this movie is a wish fulfilled in a way, though he had already passed away when this movie was shot.
