For those who love to smoke pot and for those who want to see it banned, this film will no doubt prove their point! Never before have I seen a film that would probably be embraced by both sides.
The case for the "stoners" would be that the old man in the video is cool. He smokes marijuana all the time and he seems very happy. His wife (at least that's who you assume she is) also uses and seems, by comparison, a nice normal sort of person. You assume they have jobs or had them when they were younger and they are not in prison.
The case against legalization is that this man looks about 80 and talks like a 16 year-old pot-head--something some might find very funny but is pretty pathetic. Hearing a Pauley Shore-style voice coming out of the old guy is sad and his "old lady" saying she uses pot so that she can TRY to understand what he's talking about is also pretty sad.
As I said, both sides will no doubt point out this video as proof they are right. I'm rather a Libertarian myself and generally think that the government should let people live the way they want provided they aren't harming others. However, watching this guy bothered me because he did seem like a pathetic old jerk. Of course, he'd probably say the same about me and my straight-laced (and very happy) life.
While this isn't a great short film, it does make you think and I wonder if the film's creators intended this or if they intended to please both sides of the argument. I also wonder if these old people are real pot users or just actors. If anyone knows, drop me a line.
