While not a beer drinker, I still loved this movie. Indie flicks are great; they certainly dare more than big studio movies. As a matter of fact, most of my favorite films are from independent filmmakers. The fringe is where things happen...and it's where the characters in American Beer find themselves after their car breaks down in the middle of what appears to be the Badlands. Hah! I made a literary tie-in! Ain't I all cool and sophisticated and stuff! Like German beer! (See the movie; you'll get it then.) Anyways; four Canucks, lots of cheap American beer (though the only one who gets drunk is the stoner, who is perpetually loaded anyways), a broken car, a break-in, a bar full of Ferris Bueller fans, a beatnik angel (??), a crazy hillbilly, a long-forgotten jerko gym teacher, and "the pants project".....it's all good.
I would have given this movie a -5 if possible. I just watched it from beginning to end and the whole time I was watching it I could only feel pity for whoever acted in, and created this horrible movie. Canada might as well never make a movie again because this was so awful. If anyone ever asked me to watch this again, I think I would rather watch grass grow or paint dry. It would be more exciting than this horrible, awful impression of a real movie. I beg anyone who reads this, never subject yourself to this. "American Beer" just simply makes the idea of film embarrassing. I honesty think that I could have grabbed a camera and watched my friends and I drink beer and it would have been much funnier. Please Grant Harvey, do not EVER make another movie. It would save you and your family the embarrassment of what I hope was tons of embarrassment whenever you showed your face in public. This movie was honestly, the worst movie I have ever seen made. Do not watch it. Please.
This fun Canadian comedy starts off a little slow, but eventually becomes a memorably enjoyable film. Particularly fun was the segment where one character is idolized in a restaurant by a group of people who believe he is Ferris Bueller. I wouldn't call it a laugh riot, but it is certainly a good film that is further proof that low-budget flicks can often outshine the over-hyped Hollywood blockbusters.

One day I was flipping through the channels on my tv and on came this movie, it looked interesting enough so I began to watch. What I saw was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The channel I watched it on didnt have any commercials and I sat there watching the movie until the credits finished rolling. I haven't laughed this hard for a long time. The main plot of the story is that there are these 4 Canadian guys (about 20 years old) and they are driving to a beach in America, as they are driving down some deserted highway their car breaks down, they need an alternator. Anyway, after much deliberation, they decide to go their separate ways. Somewhat in the fashion of "Four Rooms", each of the guys has their own little experiences. I won't explain them all, but they are funny as hell, except for one, where one of the guys ends up shooting someone while searching for an alternator in a garage at night. Anyway, it was kinda funny too!! These guys all have their own individual stories and they all meet up at the end at the car and they all have an alternator. It's so damn funny. Problem is, not one person I know has ever seen this film before, I seem to be the only one which is unfortunate because it really is very good. I have never heard of any of the actors before but they all did a great job. Anyway, if anyone ends up reading this, if you are bored one day and looking for a movie to watch that not many people have seen before, search out "American Beer". You will not be disappointed. I give it a 9 out of 10 (not PERFECT, of course)!!!
