- Another series of sappy stories set against a Scandinavian backdrop: In the fjords of Norway, Hanna Eliassen (Jutta Speidel) is searching for the biological father of her son Daniel, who is suffering from a serious illness. The meteorologist Leif Sörensen, who lives on a remote island, is the only one who can save him through an organ donation. But to find him, Hanne needs the help of her husband, who, however, has withdrawn, deeply hurt, after learning that he is not the biological father of her son.
- Achim Hagenau and his farm neighbor Bärbel Ramsbächle have been in a happy marriage for five years now. What the former city doctor and current farmer Achim doesn't suspect: Bärbel has been worried about his health for some time. She is convinced that Achim's heart won't last much longer if he doesn't finally slow down. She is troubled by the constant conflict with her evil brother-in-law, the ox host, who is after her farm. That's why she has already secretly quit her job as a teacher to move to Stuttgart with Achim. He is deeply offended when he accidentally finds out about this plan. And so the couple slides into their first serious marital crisis. Because Achim also made his plans like this. He wants to transfer his own farm to the family of his "almost son-in-law" Boris. And he wants to transform Bärbel's estate into a sanctuary for old animals under his own leadership. He starts with his great aunt's two loyal Rottweilers, who were actually supposed to be put down and who from now on never leave his side. With his plans, however, Achim puts himself between all stools. The greedy ox farmer already saw Bärbel's farm as a lucrative trading point for cheap export cattle. Meanwhile, Achim's daughter Anna, an easy-going veterinarian, and his son Arnulf fear for their inheritance if Boris gets his father's farm - although on the other hand they are trying to emancipate themselves from their caring Pappa. Only Achim's youngest son, Achim junior, supports his father. So the big family reunion ends in a big family row. Only when the stressed Achim collapses at the wheel of his car a little later does the clan come to their senses.

In 1897, Italian immigrant Giacomo Bertini and his Swedish wife Emma decide to stay in Hamburg, while Rudolph Lehmberg marries the young Jewish girl Recha Seelmann. Twenty years later, the Bertinis' son Alf, an upcoming pianist, gets to know Lea, the Lehmbergs' daughter. Although Lea is a talented musician herself, she decides to marry Alf and support his career. At the beginning of the 1930s, the couple realizes that Alf's dreams of becoming a music star were illusions. Lea tries to earn money to feed her three sons Roman, Cesar, and Ludwig. The Nazi takeover in 1933 changes everything because Lea and Alf's relationship is now considered to be "intermarriage". They have to fight against discrimination and hate in the new "Aryan" society. The family finally fears deportation to a concentration camp and hides in a cellar in inhuman conditions.
