A genus of palms with gigantic fan-shaped leaves, natives of tropical Asia. The principal species are C. Taliera of Bengal, and C. umbraculifera, the talipot-palm of Ceylon. The leaves of the former are used by the natives to write upon, and of the pith of the latter a sort of bread is made. See fan-palm, talipot-palm. -
