    PREFACE

OUR CHILDREN MUST BE BETTER THAN WE ARE

There is a beautiful quote that says, "There is only one beautiful child in the world, and every mother is his mother." It is a pleasant truth, as every responsible mom loves her baby more than anything else on this world and is willing to do everything she can in order to protect, help, support and give her baby the best possible education so he or she could become better than she is and live a much better life.

It is our duty as parents to offer our kids the best possible education and it is my duty as author to write in the best possible way and help with that.

Fifty Bedtime Stories for Children about Fifty Phenomenal Men comprises fifty amazing stories of remarkable men that put their dent in the universe and made it a bit better. It is a book about passion, hard work, sweat, tears, failures after failures, despair, struggle, mind-blowing determination, perseverance and finally, the so much wanted Success. Every one of those fifty men achieved greatness, but none of them achieved it the easy way, none of them achieved it the fast way – everyone had their obstacles along the path, and the secret of their mightiness is hidden in every little story. Some of them achieved greatness during their lifetime, and others, unfortunately, achieved it after passing on only – and their legacy speaks for themselves nowadays keeping their names forever alive on the world's Hall of Fame.

The paramount aim of the book is to describe their life's reality as it was, with their personal ups and downs, with their own joys and sorrows. It is important to know those realities as they actually were – even if in some cases there might be found a painful truth. It is important that boys understand that difficulties are inherent part of life. At the same time, it is important to know that those difficulties are not insuperable. Moreover, it is needed to understand that not only they can find ways how to overcome them but they can remove those barriers from the path of the upcoming generations and become real heroes, just like each of these fifty men did.

Each of the fifty stories shows the world-changing power of a persevering heart.

Each of these stories speaks about their own heroes: presidents, athletes, actors, warriors and peacemakers, writers, entrepreneurs, scientists and doctors, inventors, explorers, etc. Regarding the warriors - some of them were fighting, defending their own countries, and others were fighting in the name of their countries on the alien's lands. Eventually, history showed that all of them were honourable men, and in most cases were right in their deeds even if some of their actions may be seen as not through the best possible solutions, but this is life – no one is perfect.

May the life of these brave men inspire you! May their portraits instil upon our boys minds the strong belief that you can't put a limit on anything, as the more you dream - the farther you get. May everyone know the biggest pleasure in life is to live it full of passion, love, sympathy, and forgiveness. May we all not forget our most beautiful moments in our lives and make sure to repeat them - in the same way, or in any other different manner, to give more often to our kids more reasons to smile and to say - I love you!

    ALEXANDER THE GREAT

    KING

Once upon a time, over 2000 years ago, in the cradle of European civilization, a kid was born who was to become an invincible warrior. His father was Philip II, king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon. His mother was Olympias, the daughter of the king of Epirus. His name was Alexander, later known as Alexander the Great.

Living in royal conditions as a child, Alexander received a very good education, learning to read, ride, play the lyre, hunt and fight, and had Aristotle as a teacher – one of the most known philosophers and scientists from the ancient Greek.

When he was 10-years-old, a trader brought Philip a black horse, which he offered to sell to Philip, but the horse refused to be mounted, and Philip refused to buy it. However, Alexander was smart and detected that the horse just feared its own shadow. He made a wager with his father, Philip, that if he could tame the horse than Philip should buy it for him. Eventually, he won the wager by succeeding to ride the horse, which he named Bucephalus. His father was so proud of his son’s courage and ambition that kissed him in tears and stated: My boy, you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions. Macedon is too small for you.

In 336 BC his father was assassinated ( it is assumed that on the initiative of King Darius III ), and Alexander became the new king of Macedon, at the age of 20. After getting power in his hands, he started the conquest of the Persian Empire, defeating the Persian King Darius III in a series of
