What's it all about?
Hello there. My name is Shelley and I love designing crochet squares. I really do.
Crochet is so much more than the humble granny square. In this book, you'll find a selection of blocks that can be used on their own or along with others to create your own wonderful, colourful creations. I aim to show you how versatile crochet can be, even in the standard square shape.
Most blocks are suitable for all skill levels. There are some funky techniques and odd ways of doing things that may at first glance seem challenging. I'm sure if you take your time and work step by step you will be able to successfully work any pattern in this book.
I used 8ply (light worsted or DK) cotton yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook to create these patterns. All my blocks measure 6". Yours may turn out smaller or larger, depending on your individual crochet style. If size is an issue for you, simply move up or down a hook size or 2, depending on what you need. Use the Grandma block as your gauge pattern. Use whatever hook you need to make the square measure 6". If size doesn't matter, then simply use the same hook and yarn throughout and everything will be just fine.
Even if you are an experienced crochety type, I recommend you check out my Hints and Tips page for some notes about how I do things to make them as seamless as possible. I'm a bit particular about it.
Thank you very much to SiewBee, Tammy & Carmen for testing these patterns for me. I couldn't have done it without your awesome feedback. You are all stars.
Please do let me know if you find any errors in the book. I have tried my best to make sure the patterns are error free, but I'm only human after all. My contact details can be found here : Connect with Shelley Husband
Enjoy!

Hints and Tips
I'm a bit pedantic about seamless crochet. I really don't like seeing where rounds begin and end. Because of this, it's probably useful to have a look at least at the traditional granny pattern Grandma to become familiar with my pattern writing technique and where I like to begin an end each round.
While you'll find my patterns begin with a starting chain to take the place of the first stitch, in reality I use a false stitch in its place. If you're interested, I have made a video showing how here. I think it makes for a more seamless look.
I write my patterns so that you repeat a certain set of instructions a number of times. The instructions between * and * relate to 1 side (beginning after a corner) and the following corner. The instructions between * and ** relate to 1 side only with no corners.
I end most rounds so you end up in the middle of a corner. This works well when you're not changing colours, but if you are ending a colour, I recommend chaining the same number as other corners in the round and join with a slip stitch to your first stitch, as it's just a bit easier to deal with the ends that way. You don't have to,
