About this ebook

Kezia Smythe is a newcomer to Jaded Falls. The townsfolk don't like change, and they'd definitely not approve of her being a witch if they found out.

Doreen Dineen is the worst of the bunch, going against her at every turn. It doesn't help matters that the woman's son, Dominic, asked Kezia to marry him. She does her best to avoid her future mother-in-law.

When she accidentally turns Doreen into a toad...well, she'll just have to turn her back. If only she knew how.

    Chapter One

Kezia raised her face to the moon and slowly lifted her arms. The gentle breeze that blew off the river caressed her like fingers with a light touch, gliding along her skin. The temporary respite from the heat cooled the sweat that coated her shoulders, stopping the tiny rivulets of water that ran down the valley between her breasts. Cloud coverage broke in the inky night sky, and thousands of bright pinpoints appeared. A giant silver orb hung amongst the stars, so close she felt if she stretched her body she might touch it. She closed her eyes and held her arms high, spreading her fingers wide in supplication. Her head fell back, and she started to murmur an incantation she’d learned as a child at her grandmother’s knee.

With every word her voice grew stronger. Kezia inhaled deeply. The smell of wildflowers from her porch garden and the hint of rain in the air wafted to her nose. Wood creaked in the house behind her. The loose board in the old stairs had always been her makeshift alarm. The telltale squeak warned her when someone was coming or going. She completed her chant and lowered her arms.

Dominic, her fiancé, would be out the door in no time, she didn’t need him to see her acting any odder than usual. It was hard enough to hide that fact that she was a witch, albeit a bad one. Kezia sighed. With the way his mother bad mouthed her, should he ever find out it would be one more black mark against her. She formed fists at her side to contain her meager power. The last thing she wanted was to lose Dominic.

Hey, baby, what are you doing out here? Dominic kissed the back of her neck, enfolding her in a hug from behind.

The moon was shining through our bedroom window, and I came out here to get a better look at it. She turned in his arms. "Why are you up?

I reached out, and the bed was empty. I wanted to make sure you were okay. He brushed his lips across her cheek.

I suppose it had nothing to do with this. Kezia slid her hand down between them, covering his erection with her palm.

Kezia, baby, I swear you always know how to get right to the heart of the matter. He groaned against her temple. Do you know what time it is?

    Nope, I have no clue.

It’s a quarter past midnight. Happy Halloween.

Oh, well then we should celebrate. She slid her hand under the waistband of his pajama bottoms, walking her fingers along the length of his shaft.

I love the way you think. He pulled her hand from his clothing and intertwined their fingers, tugging her towards the house.

You know how I love my holidays, especially Samhain.

    Sam who?

    Halloween, Dominic.

"Oh, never heard it called that, and I have to tell you I’m not
