The Familiar Unknown
Jessie Mason, an established author, in her 40s with shoulder length rainbow coloured hair, returns home from a two month writing retreat in The Chatham Islands, New Zealand. As she steps off the plane and into her hometown, things seem normal, but subtle differences catch her attention. Everything looked a little different, the same but different. The people looked and acted the same as if they were just the same person unaware of these new surroundings. Although the surroundings looked similar they were in fact different. The sun seemed brighter, the water more shiny, the skies a much more vivid blue, the grass almost sparkling green. The differences were enough that she could not ignore but so subtle that no one else seemed to know.
These differences started to increase, Jessie noticed the local bakery has a different name, the park seems to have an extra tree and there is a new street sign she’s never heard of before. Jessie knew this town like the back of her hand, she was born and raised here in Gisborne. Perplexed, she starts questioning her own sanity. In her confusion, she bumps into a man,
Oh I’m so sorry." Says Jessie.
It is great to have you back Jessie.
The man replies.
Jessie stares at the man, Alex leans in to hug Jessica, instantly she pulls away, this is just too shocking. He sounds like Alex, he knows who I am, but
