Satisfaction

About this ebook
The prophecy of Obadiah concludes with the emphatic statement that the Kingdom shall be the LORD’s – Obadiah 1:21. When the Kingdom is the LORD’s, He and the people whom He saves are satisfied. Psalm 23 reveals the LORD – Jesus Christ – as the Shepherd and shows what He does to satisfy His flock. This Psalm paints a perfect picture of the satisfaction of God’s people on mount Zion – they shall not want. Believers around the world are SETTLING, and God is raising SAVIOURS among us. The result of our settlement and the saviours God is raising is SATISFACTION. The word satisfy means to have one’s fill, to be full, to have excess and to be overwhelmed. It is a state of contentment due to having an abundance or excess of the things one needs. Prophetically, I see abundance and pleasures coming into the Body of Christ in a way we have never experienced.

INTRODUCTION
The prophet Obadiah prophesied about the return of the people of Israel from the Babylonian captivity to possess their possessions. The return from captivity is comparable with the Jubilee in the land of Israel, which was characterised by an unconditional release from bondage and a return to one’s possession and family.
17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
Obadiah 1:17-21
The prophet declared that when the Babylonian captivity of seventy years was ended, the remnant who escaped death would return to mount Zion and possess it – God’s people would settle on mount Zion.
The word Zion
means a mountain, fortification, or parched place. In the Bible, depending on the context, it variously represents the Canaanite hill on which the oldest parts of Jerusalem were built, the city of Jerusalem, the dwelling place of Jehovah, the temple area, or the spiritual depiction of Israel as the people of God.
When God delivered His people, they possessed their possessions by returning to mount Zion. In the New Testament, believers in Jesus Christ have come to their spiritual mount Zion, the city of the living God. We are not homeless people. We are not without company – an innumerable company of angels, the general assembly, and the spirits of just men made perfect surround us.
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Hebrews 12:22-24
The prophet Obadiah prophesied about the children of Israel returning to mount Zion to possess their possessions. He also signalled that saviours would come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau. The settlement of the children of Israel in a state of perpetual tranquillity and satisfaction depends on the obedience of the saviours God raises among them.
The word saviours
in Obadiah 1:21 is the Hebrew word moshia’, meaning deliverer or saviour. Other Bible scholars derive the word saviours
from the Hebrew word yâsha, which means to free, rescue, deliver, save, get victory or open wide. Both words refer to the assignment of the saviours on mount Zion – saviours are deliverers. The saviours on mount Zion had the power to subdue the house of Esau and other enemies of the Jews and possess the land.
THE SUBJECT OF SAVIOURS IS A CALL TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF LEADERSHIP. Settlement can only be achieved among people if leaders are empowered by the Holy Ghost to obey God’s command to execute the mandate of acting as saviours. Leaders must also be willing to make the necessary sacrifices. Leadership is not an academic exercise but a spiritual and moral calling.
Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the souls of humankind. There is no salvation in any other person besides Him. He is the only mediator between God and man who paid the penalty of our sins by shedding His blood and taking our place in death. He died for us and reconciled us to God.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 4:12
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Acts 5:30–31
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
1 Timothy 2:3–6
Jesus Christ is the Saviour who gave His life as a ransom to save us. He is the mediator between God and men. Nevertheless, in the Old Testament, the word saviour
can be applied to leaders like Othniel, Ehud, Barak, Gideon and King Joash, whom God used to save or deliver His people. Sometimes, when people are not directly referred to as saviours, it is implied.
27 Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
Nehemiah 9:27
In 2 Kings 13:5-9, 22-25, King Joash or Jehoash is a saviour whom God gave to the people of Israel. He defeated King Ben-hadad of Syria three times and recovered the cities of Israel from him.
5 (And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
22 But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.
25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
2 Kings 13:5-9, 22-25
In the New Testament, we find cases in which God used some human beings to save others in bad or challenging situations. The apostle Paul described Aquila and Priscilla as a couple who were his helpers in Christ. He said they laid down their necks for him. This statement is like saying they were his saviours.
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
Romans 16:3–5
Obadiah 1:21 says saviours would come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau, and THE KINGDOM SHALL BE THE LORD’S. The word kingdom
is the Hebrew word melû·ḵāh, meaning something ruled or a realm. The word melû·ḵāh is derived from the root mâlak, which means to reign, ascend the throne or be inducted into royalty. When God rules on mount Zion, He raises human saviours to bring peace, righteousness, and prosperity. Saviours appear on mount Zion to enforce the rule of Jehovah in the world. He is the Creator of the world today, but at the end of this present age, His power and glory will overwhelm the entire universe as evil is annihilated and every knee bows to His sovereignty.
The prophet Daniel revealed that the GOD of Heaven shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed. Four monarchies shall be broken in pieces and consumed, and the LORD shall set up His Kingdom and rule as the Sovereign God over the entire world.
36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so
