Thanks to Miss China, the most encouraging teacher, to help me through all my hardships.
Thanks to my parents, for putting a lot of effort on this book (especially mom).
CHAPTER ONE
The sun was setting as I finally put my broom away. It shined brightly against the mountain’s complaints. Today was another day of cleaning the dirty school… another day of sleeping on the side of the road… another day of an aching body. It was the end of the day, and it was time to go home. I walked down the main street until I approached an old, unpaved, dead-end road that I turned left onto. I made my way to the very end of the street and sighed.
Home, sweet, home,
I thought to myself.
I then laid down on the hard, rocky ground tucked under a tree to keep out of sight from potential onlookers and danger. I was exhausted from the long day and prepared to go right to sleep. Before my tired body could lull me to sleep, a flash of something swaying in the wind caught my eye. I immediately sat up like an alarmed cat, turned my head, and saw something. This was nothing of an ordinary nature, like a leaf or a lost jacket. It was a faded, yellow poster that looked like it had been there for ages. This was so strange because I had not seen this until just now. It said,
Search away at the old yellow school, for pieces that take you away. Go do it now, and make us proud, for a total of a hundred grand.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, what are these pieces? Who is us? Where is away?" I said out loud to myself.
The only thing that I knew of was the old yellow school. It was my place of work, where I had cleaned and swept daily. It was sort of small, short, and always very dirty.
I shouldn’t be thinking about this. I should go to sleep, so I will be rested and able to search for these
pieces that the riddle speaks of; whatever it may mean,
I thought, trying to reason with myself.
I laid back down uncomfortably on the cold hard ground and drifted off to sleep. That was when the worst of the worst happened. My mind wandered into a lucid-like dream.
Find us,
said a figure.
Gather us,
said another one.
We will take you to the prize,
whispered the last one.
I jolted awake. My breath came in ragged and short. That dream…that dream meant something; it had spoken the truth to me. I knew I must follow through with the quest from the poster; it was my destiny. The sun was still only a glimmer below the horizon; but make no mistake, I was ready. My legs were already vibrating with energy. I tightened my shoelaces, jumped up and ran to the old yellow school. I was on my quest. Whatever the challenge was, I was ready.ie
CHAPTER TWO
When I finally arrived at the school, the sun still hadn’t woken up. Everything looked familiar. The shelves were dusty and old, the desks were small and unstable, and the corners were filled with spider webs and bugs. Every time I came to this school, I always swept and cleaned; but this time I had gone to the school for a different reason. I went to find the pieces.
I still wasn’t quite sure what that meant.
I first walked through the classrooms. My eyes slowly adjusted as the sun got out of its mountain bed. Its rays shined through the weak glass of the classroom windows. The rays were so
