Dedication
This book is dedicated to Maddy, Russell, and Carissa. I’m beyond blessed by you.
A Special Note to Parents, Educators, and Caregivers.
What you’re doing is so valuable! Daily, you put your heart and soul into those you love who are in your care. But, what happens when your child struggles with a learning difference, personality issue, or has emotions of worry, anger, or fear about a situation? Sometimes conflicts and concerns come up at home or in school that make it hard to connect with your child, and you can feel frustrated navigating these moments. This book exists to support your child and you as you help them find victory through their days. May you be encouraged as you help your child see all the things they can do!
Much love and support,
Carol Nissen
Introduction
As an educator of 10 plus years, and a mother of three, I’ve spent most of my adult life working with children. Whether through teaching in a classroom, leading kid’s clubs, after-school care, one-on-one tutoring, or helping my children at home, I’ve found patterns in responses that tend to leave children defeated in their day. All of us, adults and children, come to those moments in our day where we want to throw in the towel and give up out of fear, or anger, or overwhelm, or lack of resources. We have so many choices in a day, and I hope that we can all find ways to overcome and feel confident in working through difficulties. In this book, you will find ways to use my signature system, the IDEA System, to work alongside your child/children to help them experience victory over the situations that tend to bring them to a place of feeling out of their element. This book is a support to parents, educators and volunteers so that anyone working with kids can apply the IDEA System to help children have success in their days.
Before we start, I’d like to share the following with you so you can keep the purpose of this book in mind as you and your child work through situations together.
This book outlines a simple system that will give you practical steps to help your child find success in their days. There are ‘work it out exercise’ sections
