Ramayana is an Eternal Epic, a wonder of a creative effort of Sage Valmiki given for the benefit and welfare of humanity. Ramayana was composed by Sage Valmiki, originally in Sanskrit which is known as the Vedic language and also the language of God. Ayana
in Sanskrit denotes movement. The entire Ramayana describes the movements of Lord Rama, the Seventh Avatara(incarnation)of God(Maha Vishnu) right from his birth and thus is aptly named so. (Rama + Ayana). Ramayana consists of seven chapters known as Kandas
. They are Bala, Ayodhya, Aranya , Kishkinda, Sundara, Yuddha, Uttara Kandas). The Balakanda describes the early childhood of Rama, His marriage with Sita, King Janaka’s daughter, Ayodhyakanda describes his stay in Ayodhya immediately after his marriage with Sita . It also depicts how Kaikeyi, his step mother becomes the reason for Rama’s going into a fourteen years of exile to the forest, Aranyakanda elaborates the abduction of Sita from the forest where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana (Rama’s brother) spent their days of exile , Kishkindakanda details
the meeting of Rama with Hanuman and Sugreeva the king of the Vanaras (monkeys) , Sundarakanda describes the adventures and feats of Hanuman in finding the whereabouts of Sita and finally locating her in the Ashoka Vana in Lanka , Yuddhakanda describes the war between Rama and Ravana and the end of Ravana Rajya in Lanka, and lastly the Uttarakanda being the story of Lava and Kusha, the sons of Rama though this is not considered to be a part of Valmiki’s version of Ramayana.
All the chapters of Ramayana have their own salient features but Sundarakanda alone enjoys a special privilege. Sundarakanda is the Crest Jewel of the
