Chapter 1: What Is Borderline Personality Disorder?
Princess Diana was one of the most popular and loved English aristocrats. She had a beautiful face, a great posture, and a captivating presence.
Lady Diana Spencer was born into a wealthy aristocratic family. She had a sheltered life. She was shy, but she was interested in dancing and performing. She went to a boarding school in Switzerland. She also taught children at Young England Kindergarten.
The People’s Princess captivated the hearts of the masses, not only in the United Kingdom, but all over the world. The paparazzi chased her everywhere she went. Princess Di was sweet and kind, and she always knows what to say and when to say it. She had a colorful, beautiful, wealthy, and remarkable life.
After the princess died in a car crash, renowned writer Sally Bedell Smith interviewed one hundred and fifty people who personally knew her, including known British journalists. Smith then wrote a book that revealed the princess’ dark side.
Diana was a branding and marketing genius. She managed to appear as the perfect and sympathetic princess. But she has a secret life. Diana was lonely, bulimic, and suicidal. She had a sexless marriage. She also frequently threw childlike tantrums. Sally Bedell Smith claimed that the People’s Princess has a mental health disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder, or BPD for short.
For the first time in history, people got interested in BPD. But Princess Diana’s condition was not uncommon at all. In fact, over 4 million people have been diagnosed with BPD in the United States alone.
Borderline Personality Disorder is defined by an instability of self-image and interpersonal relationships. It is characterized by unstable functioning, moods, and behavior, which results in impulsivity, relationship issues, depression, anger, and anxiety. It’s often triggered by a traumatic childhood experience.
