About this ebook
Jordan, formerly Transjordan can trace its founding to a biblical ancestor, Moab. It is no surprise, then, that the early Moabites had contact with the ancient Hebrews. In this 4,000-word essay, the author highlights these interactions, taking a succinct look at Jordanian biblical history.

Jordan Biblical Moab - Marcella Denise Spencer
Introduction
When one desires a vacation in a locale rich with biblical history, it’s natural to book a trip to Jerusalem, the Holy Land. But come with me to Jordan—yes, Jordan. To a plain near the Jordan River. Never mind the hot thick air; take a walk along the banks of the Wadi Kharrar, and you’d find a hill. The very rise where the prophet Elisha watched the LORD sweep away his master, Elijah, in a chariot and horses of fire. The rise is called Elijah’s Hill – Tell Mar Elyas.
Near Elijah’s hill is where John the Baptist is rumored to have lived. Can you see him calling out to the approaching Pharisees and Sadducees, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Or see John baptizing the One whose sandal laces he was not worthy to tie?
In the Bible, the name Moab is mentioned numerous times. A casual reading of the Old Testament would tell you it’s a land near the Jordan River; and another country the children of Israel contended with. And the children of Israel set forward and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho
(Num 22:1). When King Saul took rulership of Israel, he fought against all his enemies, including Moab
