WRITING EVERYDAY VOICES

Writing is the best job in the world but let’s be honest; there are times when it feels like the hardest. Those days when we just can’t get to the crux of the matter, or indeed, the heart of a character.

I understand the frustration of writer’s block, burnout, creative roadblock… whatever you might call it. My view is that we risk making the writing life more difficult than it needs to be by ignoring a powerful tool we all have within us. That is, when we look outside of ourselves for inspiration when we can mine the rich seam of personal experience and memories we all have threading through us.

Nowhere is this as important than in crafting and writing believable and threedimensional characters.

Advice for writers varies widely and one pointof the two can be a powerful angle to take in terms of creating and developing characters.
