PERFECTLY UNBALANCED

Beauty is famously in the eye of the beholder, but it’s pretty clear that over the last few millennia, art, culture, psychology and elite modeling agencies have found some common ground when it comes to attractiveness. Symmetry is one of the key defining traits for making our hearts beat faster. From the idealized form of the Venus de Milo all the way through to the sculptural qualities of Timothée Chalamet’s jawline, it’s hard to argue with the power and appeal of balance.

This same theory can be applied to watches — the designs and models lauded with icon status vary widely when it comes to function; the great dive watches don’t bear much in common with exemplary dress watches, except on one important metric. Their designs are overwhelmingly balanced. From the dial to the case all the way down to the shape of the hands, there’s something innately pleasing about a watch that boasts a perfectly balanced look from top to bottom.
