Secrets of Visual Storytelling

It’s tough to pull apart something you love to figure out what makes it so good. Take s’mores: If you pull them apart, you get marshmallow, graham crackers, and chocolate. But does that convey the campfire, the tradition, or the debate over how to best toast a marshmallow? Ever since I began drawing comics a few years ago, I’ve been asked to explain their value. As with s’mores, the answer has a few layers.

I started creating science comics for two reasons. First reason: fun. Although I write like I breathe fresh air, I wanted to play around in the sunshine, too, by drawing pictures.
