In the space of a few years, air fryers have gone from relative obscurity to becoming one of the hottest kitchen appliance purchases in the UK in just a few short years.

More than a third of households now own one of these compact gadgets, cherished for their energy efficiency and ability to cook tasty meals with just a fraction of oil.

It’s a bandwagon well worth joining. Air fryers are an invaluable cooking tool, whether you live in a large or small household. They take a snip of the time to cook ingredients and can be used as a secondary oven when you need to prepare a feast like at Christmas, Easter or a Sunday roast with all the trimmings, on the table in half the time.

Major electrical brands have launched versions of these machines, and when competition is fierce, it’s bargain-hungry shoppers who have the most to win.

Remember your parent’s creaky old deep-fat fryer? An air fryer is the shinier, healthier 21st-century version.

Almost like a mini oven, they sit on your countertop and have pull-out baskets or trays to cook ingredients from different directions.

How does an air fryer work?

A fan at the top or back of the appliance propels air around the chamber at dizzying speeds to ensure all sides of your ingredients are treated to the same heat. You may have to give things a little shake now and again, but by and large, this guarantees crispy results every time. You get the taste of deep fried with barely any oil used at all.
