I used to think that a compass was a strange, mystical tool; a sort of esoteric wand that only select wizards had the ancient wisdom to use. It didn’t help that I grew up in a culture that told me map and compass navigation was a skill that belonged to ‘boy’ scouts; as though the techniques were somehow gendered and bestowed to only 50% of us.
