CURRENTS OF LIFE
The human being of our time finds himself in a state of torpor or congealment. Either he is hardened in terms of perception, chained to a wrong idea, or he is too complacent to learn to think logically again – logically not in an intellectual sense, but in the higher sense of a spiritual logic. That means: without the usual prejudices of superficial mass thinking, which are tied to so many things – nation-bound, tradition-bound, bound to denomination, tied to party ideology, tied to class-conscious beliefs and so on, and therefore can neither be free nor objective.
Out of such a torpor, however, man is always looking for a confirmation that he is still alive – and not just drifting aimlessly in the currents created by the latest fads or trends. There remains a spasmodic attempt to obtain this confirmation by surrendering to all possible and impossible perceptions that present themselves, whatever they may be.
Thereby it is felt exactly how active life and the silent perception of an alert spirit belong together, thus complement each other to form a unity, and are therefore also dependent on each other. The term ‘alert spirit’ as used here is not to be equated with intellectual wit or brilliance, or even mental alertness, but is the hallmark of a person whose innermost core of being is not asleep, which, unfortunately, is quite rare. Nevertheless, an attempt is made to access real life and frame the attitude towards life on the basis of ‘good luck’ or ‘hit and miss’. Serious seeking and self-examination rarely enter into it at all. It is always easier to blame others or put it down to ‘bad luck’ or the capriciousness of fate if plans go awry. However, whoever is not capable of consciously using his intuitive faculties as a touchstone
