A fearless leader in the making, Arame is her school’s captain. At 186cm, she loves that being tall makes her different and wants to show others that it’s OK to stand out.
How does it feel to be named a finalist?
It feels amazing because it’s an opportunity that doesn’t happen often. You enter not expecting anything, so I feel very lucky to be chosen.
What does being a great role model mean to you?
It means being positive, respectful, kind and loving as well as inspiring others and being true to yourself, especially in difficult situations.
Who is your biggest role model?
I have three! The band Little Mix, because they empower women and taught me to be comfortable in my own skin. My grandmother, because she is a strong, independent woman. And Misty Copeland, who was the first black female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater.
What is the cause you’re most passionate about?
The Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon initiative, bringing awareness to breast cancer.
Do you have any secret talents?
I can move one eye at a time and I can write songs.
Has there ever been a time where you’ve struggled with something and, if so, how did you overcome it?
When I lost my mum to breast cancer when I was 11. Moving in with my aunty was a big adjustment, but my family and friends helped support me through this time, and I got involved in dance and music, which was my outlet.
