I am a Seattle-based integrative, addiction psychiatrist who sees patients virtually throughout Washington state.
I focus on delivering personalized treatment for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma for individuals who might also struggle with chronic medical conditions, chronic pain, or addiction.
I integrate cutting-edge Western medical practices with time-honored complementary interventions as well as psychedelic integration, offering a unique, holistic approach to support both your mental and physical health.
Do you find yourself grappling with the challenges of depression, anxiety or ADHD while also navigating chronic medical conditions or addiction? Does your chronic discomfort, addiction, or worry interfere with your work and relationships? Have you felt dismissed by previous psychiatrists because of your reservations about taking medication and struggle to find providers who align with your treatment vision? Do you find it difficult to complete tasks, organize your life or are easily distracted? Have you turned to substances to cope with pain, anxiety or mood, only to find these choices compounding the problems in your life? Do you find it challenging to connect with mental health providers who truly understand and embrace the unique experiences and concerns of the LGBTQAI+ community?
I get it, and I am here to help.
Welcome to my practice, Ellestad Psychiatry! I’m a board-certified addiction and integrative psychiatrist with over fifteen years of clinical experience who believes that healing starts with a trusting, warm therapeutic relationship. I believe that every patient should feel genuinely valued and heard.
I help adults with depression, anxiety, ADHD and trauma who also suffer from other chronic health conditions including addiction, chronic medical illness, or chronic pain improve their mood, feel more relaxed in their life, improve their energy and focus, and optimize their everyday functioning.
I do this by implementing customized, holistic, and integrative treatment plans that include medications, nutraceuticals, functional lab testing, mind body approaches and a diverse range of therapy modalities including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic as well as psychedelic assisted psychotherapy integration.
In addition, I also specialize in patients that identify as LGBTQIA+. As a gay psychiatrist who has navigated many of the challenges inherent in this community and drawing from over a decade of my own personal therapy, I have a lived understanding of the struggles this community faces. These experiences cannot be learned from a book.
I know that everyday gay life can be quite different from the straight, heteronormative world. Finding someone that truly grasps the inner workings of our community is challenging but important in order to feel safe and understood.
I believe that connection is at the heart of psychiatry and that compassion is at the center of medicine. When both of these are present, healing can occur.
I also believe:
That self exploration and genuine relationship building leads to wellness,
In the bodies inherent ability to heal when nurtured properly,
In integrating holistic approaches with scientifically proven methods,
And, that our struggles and imperfections teach us to be resilient and, in turn, bring our lives meaning and wisdom.
My psychiatry practice is founded on the belief that healing does not just lie with medication, but rather is a holistic process. My aim is to provide a safe space for self-exploration and inquiry, and incorporate many different forms of both Western and Eastern medicine to help create balance.
By combining various proven methods, you and I will collaborate to create a comprehensive, personalized plan that will address your mental, physical and spiritual selves, to bring about tangible, real-life improvements.
“Healing is not about getting rid of all the pain, but about learning to carry it differently.”
