Transition to the future What could the energy transition look like over the coming years One of the biggest questions facing our society of the next century is how we manage an effective energy transition and what that could look like. On the EGU blogs Asmae Ourkiya, our EGU Media and Communications Officer takes a look at how that transition will include considerations of energy justice and the balance of needs between people in the Global North and Global South. Any future transition would also need to consider data accessiblity, so this month Projects Manager Simon Clark spoke to Alba Brobia Ansoleaga about her thoughts on open data, "Adopting a FAIR approach to information is crucial for tackling environmental challenges as it accelerates research efforts and allows more robust scientific findings that can support evidence-based decision-making.". One of the areas seriously impacted by global climate change are low lying island countries and Simon Clark also spoke to the Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Palaeontology (SSP) Division Early Career Sciences Representative Shradha Menon, as she describes her work on island stability. This month EGU announced the awards of the 2024 Public Engagement Grants and Science Journalism Fellowships, head over the announcement pages to learn more about the successful projects! Also the EGU25 Call for Abstracts is now open, don't forget to submit your abstract by 13:00 CET 15 January 2025. If you are looking for financial assistance, submit your abstract by 13:00 CET 2 December 2024.
