2023 Suzuki Jimny now offered in black in Australia

The 2023 Suzuki Jimny four-wheel-drive (4WD) has been given an additional paint colour option thanks to high demand, with production increasing to allow greater supply.

Previously only available with a choice of six colours, Bluish Black Pearl has become the latest offering for prospective Australian Jimny buyers, remaining at the same $695 premium as the other single-tone metallic finishes.

Teased last week by Suzuki Australia on social media, General Manager Michael Pachota told Drive the addition of black to the list of paint options came in response to customer feedback since its launch in 2018.

Pachota said last week’s orders increased by 62 per cent after the announcement, claiming a majority of orders were for the new black offering.

“I knew this particular colour would be popular, we’ve had so many requests for black since launch,” said Pachota.

“We simply couldn’t add it into the line-up in the last two and half years because we were strapped with supply and we decided six colour options at the time were manageable.

“Now that supply is improving, even though orders are growing, we have an opportunity to increase the colour options by one.”

In May 2022, Suzuki announced reduced Jimny wait times of roughly six months, with the Japanese manufacturer saying a majority of its customers in the past three months have waited between five to six months for deliveries.

So far this year, to the end of June 2022, Suzuki reported 2564 Jimny 4WDs as sold, representing a 75 per cent increase over the 1467 examples delivered over the same period the previous year.

The Jimny is sold in two model grades in Australia: the Jimny Lite starting at $28,490 plus on-road costs, and the original better-equipped Jimny from $29,990 in five-speed manual guise, increasing to $31,490 with a four-speed automatic gearbox.
