Hair trends may come and go, but this next one? As Lin Manuel Miranda would say, "this is not a moment, it's a movement."

The natural hair movement has been steadily gaining momentum for the past few years. Intensified by lockdown, we're seeing more and more people return to their natural texture and even hair colour.

Care and condition is quickly beginning to outpace the desire for chemical straighteners and bleaches, so it makes sense that our attention has now turned to other sources of damage.

We know how damaging heat can be for drying out our strands, increasing frizz and causing split ends, but lockdown enabled lots of us to give our hair a break from regular blow-drying and styling and establish a healthier routine for our hair. Now we're coming out the other side, we're looking for ways to keep up the good work, while still maintaining plenty of styling options.

Since last June, Google searches for "heatless hair" have soared by a whopper 967 per cent. And, as always, TikTok is here to guide us through with inspo and education.

Currently, #heatlesscurls has 564 million views on the video sharing platform. #Heatlesswaves has 86.6 million views, #heatlesshairstyles comes in at 79.9 million views and #heatlesshair has 61.8 million views. That's a combined 792.3 million of us wanting to know how to style our hair without the damage.

We've seen heatless bathrobe curls take off.

We've seen socks step in for our heat tools.

And we've seen rod rollers make a major comeback.

And T-shirts have also been used; TikTok user @mypawfectfamily shared a video using a red T-shirt which she'd attached to her hair and wrapped each section round with a comb and some spray. The results are seriously impressive; although note this may be better for longer, fuller locks rather than fine or short hair.

Wondering how to get the hair into that doughnut shape to actually put in your hair? One of her other videos shows you how:

Celeb hair stylist, Justine Marjan, demonstrated the criss-cross method which gives glam supermodel curls.

"Oh no! Wow wow wow wow WOW," one user called @lizzymwong said while trying the ribbon technique. "So this is what it ended up looking like. It is so cute, it holds so much volume! You're gonna be seeing me doing this every day. Look at it from the back. These are the nicest waves I've ever gotten."

And after trying out several methods, including bathrobe curls, another user, @lillyvanbrooklyn, declared silky hair rods the best way to get beautiful curls. The trick is to make sure your hair is smooth and brushed out before you start.

After dampening her hair with a spritz, winding it round the rods and leaving it for a few hours, she said the results matched her usual styling method – but without any heat.

And to avoid looking too poodle-y we recommend brushing the waves out and loosening them with your fingers.

Another way to ease up on the heat? Wash and blow dry your hair less. One user named @sangangx showed how she made it through 15 days without having to apply heat thanks to 15 different beautiful hairstyles.

Which means our hair can still look hot, even with zero heat.
