New Cemetery
Designed by a local architect George E. Pritchard, New Cemetery opened in 1855 following the closure of the parish graveyards of St Michael's and All Saints. It stands in pleasant mature woodlands in what was Apton Fields and extends to eight acres.
There are two attractive little chapels and a lodge house in the cemetery, all constructed in flint and mortar, as is the public convenience near the main gate.
There are several WWII war graves within the cemetery, which is surprising as the "new" cemetery on the other side of Cemetery Road opened before WWII.
