Church of St Mary, Kippax

One of the ancient parish churches of Elmet, long predating the present city of Leeds which has swallowed the parish (administratively) although the village remains a few miles outside the limit of the city's built-up area. The parish is now one of three in a larger benefice with Allerton Bywater and Swillington (all three dedicated to St Mary).

The building is largely Anglo-Saxon or early Norman, altered of course at various dates. It is grade I listed (list entry 1237399), partly for the extensive use of herringbone masonry.
