Shared description

Blackburn railway station

There has been a station on the current site since 1846, originally belonging to the Blackburn and Preston Railway. Ownership subsequently passed to the East Lancashire Railway, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. London Midland & Scottish Railway, British Rail(ways) and now Northern Rail (a publicly owned company). The main station building, erected c.1886-8, is grade II listed (list entry 1261389).
