Church of St James, Shardlow
The church consists of a wide aisleless nave, typical of the period, with a small sanctuary at the east end flanked by a vestry, and a west tower. The style is essentially Perpendicular. Although faced with ashlar, the basic construction is of brick.
The interior of the church is laid out with a mixture of box and bench pews, painted in light-oak scumble. There is a western gallery with a small pipe organ. The area under the gallery has been screen to form a meeting room in which services can also be held when congregations are small. To the south of the sanctuary is an impressive tall pulpit with tester, with a matching small reading desk on the north side.
The church is Listed Grade II; the churchyard railings and gate alongside the main road are also Listed Grade II.
