A bittersweet cup, Moseley Village
Inside a café on Alcester Road in Moseley a sign depicts a cup of coffee and three coffee beans, with the words for café or coffeeshop in French and in Arabic, maqhaa. The red ochre, cream and black stripes on the walls recall the flags of several Arab countries, including Syria. The business is one of a chain of popular Damascus-themed café-restaurants in Birmingham, their interiors evoking Syria before the civil war, now in its eleventh year.
