Brean Sands viewed from Brean Down
Brean Down is a promontory in Somerset, it stands at 318 feet (97 m) high and extends 1½ miles (2 km) into the Bristol Channel. It lies at the north end of Brean Sands, between Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea. There are the archaeological remains of a Roman temple on the south side of the Down. The ruined Palmerston Fort was built to defend the country against a possible Napoleonic invasion.
Brean Down is now owned by the National Trust.
