Warkworth Castle

Warkworth Castle dates from c1139 with its outer wall added early in the C13th. Much building took place in the late C14th & early C15ths. The castle came into the hands of the Percy family in the C14th & remained so for c600 years. It has not been extensively restored as have other nearby castles (eg Bamburgh & Alnwick) & nowadays the ruins are in the care of English Heritage.
