The old lifeboat
The "Mary Ann Hepworth" came into service as Whitby's lifeboat in 1938. After being launched 372 times and saving 201 lives, she was eventually replaced in 1974. After some time elsewhere, she returned to Whitby in 1988 and was fitted out with a "pirate" theme for pleasure trips round the harbour. She was sold on in 2020 and is now believed to be moored at Hull Marina. Her role as Whitby's "Pirate Ship" has been taken over by the "Black Pearl".
