taken 3 years ago, near to Bridgend, Gloucestershire, England

Ryeford Coal Pen
Ryeford Coal Pen
Ryeford (or Marling's) coal pen was built in 1864 by the Marling family, who owned Ebley and Stanley Mills, to store coal brought in by canal. The coal would then be moved to the mills by road. The limestone walls are good quality and have rounded corners to allow easy access for carts. The wrought iron gates are late 19th century. The structure is grade II listed.
