Blackpool Tower

A Grade I listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1205810 LinkExternal link ), Blackpool Tower is almost 520 feet (158m) in height. It was first opened to the public on 14 May 1894.

Although inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Blackpool’s tower differs in that it is not free-standing. Its base is hidden by the building which houses Blackpool Tower Circus.

Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramway :: SD3347

From the end of the Illuminations season of 2009, the tramway in Fleetwood closed in preparation for the modernisation of the tramway to a light rail system, due to open in the spring of 2012.
It is not known at this stage whether it will be possible for any of the historic trams to run on the modernised route. The new trams will operate at the modern standard 750 volts, compared with the present 550 volts.
