Opened in 1847 as "Stratford Bridge" by the Eastern Counties railway, later part of the Great Eastern Railway, on the line from Stratford to North Woolwich, the original entrance was down the road to the left. The station name was changed to "Stratford Market" in 1880 and it was rebuilt in 1892 with this building replacing the 1847 entrance. The station closed in 1957.
View south. The railway line remained open for British Rail use, with the Stratford to North Woolwich passenger service finishing in 2006. It was rebuilt by the Dockland Light Railway, with "Stratford High Street" station opening here in 2011 - see also TQ3883 : Stratford High Street DLR station and Stratford Market railway station (site), London.
