Monument at Mount Stuart
This Category B listed
Link monument dates from the late 18th century. It consists of a figurative statue surmounting a tooled sandstone corniced column on a yellow sandstone ashlar pedestal inscribed "Dum memor ipse mei dum spiritus hos regit artus." Commissioned by the 3rd Earl of Bute, this monument originally stood in the grounds of Luton Hoo Park. It is dedicated to the mother of King George III, Augusta, Princess Dowager of Wales - to whom the 3rd Earl was devoted. It would appear to have been moved here sometime between 1863 and 1897.
