The Old Chapel Building at the Landing Stage on Derwent Isle
Derwent Island is the only inhabited island on the lake. Once owned by the monks of Fountains Abbey before the dissolution of the monasteries, it was later inhabited by German miners during Elizabethan times. Since the 1950s, the island and its house have been owned by the National Trust. They are leased by the National Trust to tenants, the house islived in throughout the year but is open to the public for five days annually for visits organised by the National Trust LinkExternal link (National Trust Heritage Records)

The chapel, which probably dates from the nineteenth century, is a Grade II listed building (List Entry Number: 1144693 LinkExternal link Historic England).
Derwent Water

Derwent Water (aka Derwentwater) is the third largest lake by area within the Lake District National Park (after Windermere and Ullswater). Scenically, Derwentwater is very picturesque; there are several islands within the lake which is surrounded by high fells, and many of the slopes facing Derwentwater are extensively wooded. A passenger launch operates a regular service on the lake taking visitors between several landing stages, starting and finishing at Keswick.
