DUKW at the village fete, Glinton - June 2024
This DUKW six-wheel-drive amphibious military vehicle was on display at the annual Glintonfest village fete in Glinton in June 2024. The fete was scheduled to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944.
A total of 21,147 DUKWs - nicknamed "ducks" - were manufactured by General Motors Corporation (GMC) between 1942 and 1945. They were used by the U.S. military in the Second World War and the Korean War.
This particular example (no. P5576328) was acquired by a local farmer from Etton near Peterborough who completed the restoration of the vehicle in 2019 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
