The memorial on Harris Promenade SC3876 : Douglas War Memorial stands about 50 feet (15 m) high. It is surmounted by the three ton figure of a soldier called "The Manxman" SC3876 : The Manxman. The monument was designed by Ewart Crellin (1887–1950) and the sculptures were carved by Harry Hems & Co. of Exeter. The design was unveiled to the public in 1922 and the monument erected in May 1924.
