J5980 : Donaghadee Harbour

taken 1 year ago, near to Donaghadee, Co Down, Northern Ireland

Donaghadee Harbour
Donaghadee Harbour
Taken nearly 48 hours after J5980 : Donaghadee Harbour, calm had been restored to Donaghadee and the 200 year old John Rennie designed harbour bore no mark from storm Babet.
Donaghadee Lighthouse

The lighthouse at Donaghadee dates from 1836. The tower is built of cut limestone, fluted, and in its early days was unpainted in natural grey colour. Today the tower, including the lantern and dome, is painted white with a black plinth, a decision which was taken some time between 1869 and 1875. It was converted to electric power on the 2nd October 1934 (the first Irish lighthouse to be converted to electric). See LinkExternal link for more information.
