St Albans - Cathedral - Aisle to south of Presbytery
St Albans cathedral
An Anglican cathedral, on a site that dates back to the 3rd century CE when Saint Alban was martyred here. A church and later a Benedictine Abbey were erected on the site. Most of the present building dates from the 11th-14th centuries, but the abbey church only became a cathedral in 1877. Alban's shrine still forms the centrepiece of the cathedral. The building is listed grade I (list entry number 1103163). For a more detailed history and guide, see the official website Link
