Johnny Baghdad's Café on the Square, 52 Market Place, Masham
Grade II Listed 18th century house formerly listed in 1966 as 'House occupied by C Mudd'. The café is under what's thought to be one of the oldest snooker clubs in England. Masham Subscription Billiard Room (now Masham Snooker Club) was established in 1871. Previously known as Mudds Cottage (presumably he lived under the snooker club until at least 1966) around 1993 some, if not all the ground floor, was converted from a youth club to a retail shop, probably The Curiosity Shop. It seems to have been converted to a café in 2002 (possibly as The Suncatcher Bistro) and based on Google's Street View it was called Suncatchers Cafe in November 2009 but by 2016 Johnny Baghdad's Café on the Square whose TripAdvisor reviews go back to July 2012. The rear of the building was occupied by the Desiree Hope Gallery (previously The Curiosity Shop) but currently carries a sign for the Nolon Stacey Gallery & Framing.
