SK3536 : Longbridge Weir Hydroelectric Generating Station, Derby

taken 2 years ago, near to Derby, England

Longbridge Weir Hydroelectric Generating Station, Derby
Longbridge Weir Hydroelectric Generating Station, Derby
A small hydroelectric generating station on the banks of the River Derwent, seemingly most commonly known as the "Longbridge Weir Hydro". This plant opened in 2013 and the simple architecture is satisfyingly evocative of the processes taking place within.
The crane-like mechanism to the left is an automatic screen cleaner. This appears to operate continuously, thus offering endless entertainment and joy to any onlooker who bears witness to it.
