The A500 is a major A-road in Staffordshire and Cheshire. It was constructed in the early 1960s, initially to provide links between the city of Stoke-on-Trent and the M6 at Junctions 15 and 16; it was later extended past Junction 16, to Nantwich in Cheshire. It is known locally as the "Potteries D-Road" (LinkExternal link Potteries.org).
