DUKW at Peterborough Cathedral for Armed Forces Day
This DUKW six-wheel-drive amphibious military vehicle was on display in the grounds of Peterborough Cathedral to mark Armed Forces Day in June 2019. A total of 21,147 DUKWs - nicknamed "ducks" - were manufactured by General Motors Corporation (GMC) between 1942 and 1945. They were used by the U.S. military in the Second World War and the Korean War. This particular example (no. P5576328) was restored to commemorate the 75th. anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6th., 1944.
