Former Petty Sessional Court and Police Station, Newent
Petty Sessional Courts were first established around the 1730's and were local courts consisting of magistrates presiding over minor crimes such as drunkenness, larceny, theft, assault or whether to move a case on to the Quarter Sessions. This building, which dates from before 1880 served the local community around Newent until it closed in 1973 when the Police Station moved to Watery Lane. There are separate entrances for solicitors and the public whilst the far left (out of view) was a police house. It is now private dwellings.
