DUKW on Peakirk Road, Glinton
This DUKW six-wheel-drive amphibious military vehicle was taking part in the Robinson Road Run Tractor Spectacular in September 2021. A total of 21,147 DUKWs - nicknamed "ducks" - were manufactured by General Motors Corporation (GMC) between 1942 and 1945. They were used by the U.S. military in the Second World War and the Korean War. This particular example (no. P5576328) was acquired by a local farmer from Etton near Peterborough who restored the vehicle to commemorate the 75th. anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6th., 1944.
The participants in the tractor road run assembled on the John Eve Field in Market Deeping prior to driving in convoy around several neighbouring villages. The event was organised by the Newborough Young Farmers' Club and was staged in order to raise funds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and the mental health charity MIND.
